how about a rally of crows?...

OK, we all know the usual term for a flock is a murder of crows. But every gathering we see is more like a rally, or a cheer squad for a little-known sport like curling. Loud, boisterous, enthusiastic & wry all at the same time...

That might be why we have such fun when it's time for raw crow blocks here in the studio.

Fia starts by gathering up an armful of the blocks we've set aside over the last year & heads to the drawing table. She moves the crows around the knots & whorls in each raw wood piece until they make her smile...

As you can see from the picture up top, each piece is its own thing. Which is why they don't usually stay here with us very long at all...

& the ornaments you've been asking about for the last four (or five) years?...

Just so we're clear, I don't think of myself as a pack-rat. I prefer the term materials-rich. Out in the woodshop, we are SO materials-rich in small pieces of reclaimed cherry leftover from our wood card holders that when Fia started playing with this batch of crows, I was inspired to create a few myself...

Which is how we came to have hanging ornaments available for the holidays this year. Yay!

There are three designs on carefully sanded cherry (with our usual finish of lavender & beeswax). As you'd expect, they have the soft feel of river stones - just the way Fia likes to send them to you. With a generous loop of twine to make them easy to hang almost anywhere... on a tree branch, over a doorknob, in a window, or attached to a gift...
